The city of Antwerp is located in the Antwerp province and serves as the province's capital. The province of Antwerp is located in the region of Flanders. The city itself houses nearly 475,000 residents, while the entire metropolitan area is home to over 1.1 million people. The city of Antwerp is an important cultural and financial center in the whole of Europe and has been for hundreds of years. Located on the banks of the River Scheldt, the city offers some beautiful scenery and architecture, as well as any modern conveniences desired.

The city has been in existence for nearly two thousand years, which gives the entire area a very rich history. It has survived several battles and wars, with much of the structures surviving. It is possible to visit buildings from the Middle Ages, as they have been lovingly cared for and restored. Travelers should see the Cathedral of our lady from the fourteenth century, St. James' Church where the tomb of Rubens can be found, Saint Boniface church, Boerntoren, and the Law Courts. Also worth seeing is the Antwerp Zoo, which was founded in 1843 and is one of the oldest zoos in the world, and the Plaintin-Moretus Museum. The city is also home to dozens of other museums, as well as restaurants, shopping, and a thriving nightlife.

Getting to Antwerp is easy, with daily flights into the Antwerp International Airport. The city itself has a thriving public transportation system, including rail and bus lines. It is encouraged for travelers to rent bicycles and see the city in a leisurely and efficient fashion, and many will find that sights are within easy walking distance from most hotels. Travelers will also find that taxis are plentiful for trips to attractions and places of interest that are not within walking distance.
