Bled Travel

Welcome to City of Bled

Bled is located in the northwestern region of Slovenia. The beauty of the Julian Alps makes, Bled travel very popular. Bled is best known for its glacial lake, Lake Bled, with the iconic Assumption of Mary Pilgrimage Church perched on Bled Island in the middle of the lake. Surrounded by amazing blue water and back dropped by the Alps, it's easy to see why anyone would want to visit the area. In addition to the lake and Bled Island, Bled Castle is perched on a rock overlooking the lake.

In the second half of the 19 th Century, Bled was a popular "health" resort, made popular by the Swiss Naturopath Arnold Rikli. Bled's mild climate made it a popular vacation spot for aristocrats. Today, however, Bled travel is made popular by the nearby Triglav National Park, mountain treks, hikes, and sports such as horseback riding and summer tobogganing.

Bled attractions offer a little bit of everything including a national park, Bled Castle, golf at Course Bled, the Tourist Train and steam train, boat rentals on Lake Bled, and the Public Lido. The Public Lido has been rated by the EU Report as having the highest quality bathing water in Slovenia.

Sightseeing Of Bled

Bled Castle is the second most popular tourist destination in Slovenia. The castle was mentioned in a 1004 deed of donation by Emperor Henry II, which makes it one of the oldest castles in Slovenia today. The castle itself dates back to the Middle Ages with parts of it built in Romanesque and Baroque style as well. The castle features a chapel built in the 16 th century featuring illusionist frescoes, as well as a drawbridge and moat.

Signs of prehistoric life have been located on Bled Island. Prior to the Assumption of Mary Pilgrimage Church being built, the island was home to the temple of Ziva. Ziva was the goddess of love and fertility. The island can be accessed by a traditional wooden row barge. A local wedding tradition is for the husband to carry his bride up the 99 steps of the island, during which she must remain silent.
