Grape Throwing Festival and Other Great Reasons to Visit Mallorca in September
When is the last time you did something for the first time? If it’s been awhile, or even if it hasn’t, consider heading to Mallorca to experience the Grape Throwing Festival. This two-week celebration hits its peak during the last weekend of September when the small town of Binissalem becomes a happy and very wine-soaked region in celebration of its longstanding wine-making tradition.
The festival dates all the way back to 121 BC when viticulture was first introduced to the area by ancient Romans, and a way to get rid of the bad grapes. During the last weekend of the fiesta, one of the biggest food fights on the planet takes place – and the only grape fight in the world, with participants slinging grapes at one another in a messy, fun, hysterical event. Other activities include street bands, wine tasting and wine stomping contests, parades and more.

The island of Mallorca
Mallorca is a beautiful island; the largest of the Balearic Islands, situated off the east coast of Spain. Here you’ll find white sandy beaches with plenty of sunshine as well as the dazzling waters of the Mediterranean.
Most major European cities offer direct fights to Palma de Mallorca, with the cheapest usually from the UK and Germany. Transportation is readily available with many car rental agencies as well as taxis and buses.

Mallorca activities and attractions
There is so much to do on the island, the difficult part may be in finding time to fit it all in. If you’re looking for more excitement, there is plenty of it here. Of course, if you choose, you can spend the entire time soaking up the sun, lazing on the soft sand or playing in the water.
The more adventurous might consider a scenic helicopter ride; viewing the breathtaking isle from above. You’ll soar over magnificent mountains and the clear blue Mediterranean, with the exhilaration of ride something to remember for a lifetime.
The island is even home to an amazing variety of caves, including a large cave system on the east coast of the island, Cuevas del Drach, or the Dragon Caves. Here you can take a unique journey and discover an underground lake, Lake Martel, one of the biggest underground lakes on the globe. With colorful lighting illuminating the stalactites and stalagmites as musicians perform classical music concerts on board boats that glide across the lake, it’s simply stunning.
If that’s not enough, the island also offers an excellent setting for parasailing. Always a thrill, feeling the freedom and the rush of gliding above the turquoise waters and spectacular shoreline, this just might be the “cherry on top” to your holiday on Mallorca.
