Rent a bike and tour the city

In the capital city of Copenhagen, most people get around by bicycle with the city perfectly designed for that mode of transportation, and many shops offer bike rentals for less than $10 or 7€ per day. Discover the city and its many gardens, museums and even a zoo, or stop by one of the local parks and join in a game of European football. The Danish welcome most anyone to join in the game and it’s a great way to get to know the locals.

Don’t forget your camera; a photograph of the city’s famed statue of The Little Mermaid, sitting out on a rock in Copenhagen’s harbor, is a must.

Rosenborg Castle

Rosenborg Castle is a must for any visitor to Copenhagen. Here you can view the Danish Crown Jewels, in use since the mid-17th century and tour fascinating historical displays that take guests through time and Denmark’s royal past.

Take in Old Copenhagen from the 17th century round tower; Rundet¥rn was built as an astronomical observatory and is a part of the Trinitatis Complex.

Sail on a Wooden Ship

One of the best ways to experience the magnificence of the city and the surrounding sea is to hop aboard an elegant and historic Danish sailing ship. These gorgeous schooners date back to the late 19th century, and if they talk, would surely have many stories to tell. There are a wide variety of sailing adventures to choose from, including picnic cruises, day trips, weekend trips or even longer.

Carlsberg Brewery

If you’re a beer connoisseur, you shouldn’t miss a tour of Carlsberg Brewery. Carlsberg is one of the oldest Nordic breweries still in operation, founded in 1847. Your tour includes two beers and starts off with a welcome drink at the bar. Visit the resident horses in the Carlsberg stables, the sculpture garden, old brewhouse, greenhouse and more.

Bathe in the harbor

Copenhagen has two free outdoor bathing sites, right in the heart of town in the harbor area, including the floating harbor swim bath. Swimming in the middle of the city in these crystal clean blue waters is something the locals have been doing for years, and a very unique experience for most travelers.

Where to stay

Now that you have plenty of reasons to head to Copenhagen, you might be wondering where to stay. With over 6,000 CouchSurfing members right in the city, it’s easy to find a free couch or even a room in exchange for little more than a possible friendship, dinner or a bottle of wine. Not only is CouchSurfing a more affordable way to travel, it’s often more rewarding than a stay at a hotel. If your host has time, many enjoy showing their guests around their home town – a much better way to experience the city than any travel guide could possibly be.

If you still aren’t convinced, a stay at The Pea Blossom, a B & B, may be the way to go. It’s centrally located as well as warm and welcoming.
